What Steel should be used inside buildings? (internal balustrades, handrails, stair constructions)

The best solution is AISI 304 stainless steel. It is affordable and meets all customer expectations. In internal conditions, it provides a great, fresh look for many years.

What Steel to use outdoors? (external balustrades - balcony, terrace, canopies, eaves)

The best solution is AISI 316 stainless steel. It is fully resistant to weather conditions and in particular to all chemical compounds and acids contained in rainwater and the atmosphere that surrounds us.
You can use the statement that "acid" sustains everything and is practically maintenance-free. However, to preserve its shine, it is recommended to care with special agents designed for stainless steel.

The disadvantage of this solution is the price - AISI 316 stainless steel is more expensive than AISI 304 stainless steel.

Can AISI 304 stainless steel so-called "stainless" be used outside?

Yes - AISI 304 stainless steel can be used outdoors but it is not resistant to many chemicals and acids contained in rainwater and atmosphere (Smog, Car Exhaust, Chimney Smoke, Acid Rain ...).
AISI 304 steel is stainless steel and does not rust when in contact with water and humid air. It is resistant to water but only "clean water".

As a result, AISI 304 stainless steel may become discolored after some time, become gray and dull, and stop enjoying the eye.
In order for the use of stainless steel AISI 304 to make sense outside, products made of it should be regularly cleaned and impregnated with special means intended for this (preferably twice a year - in spring and autumn).
After a longer or several years of operation, it may be necessary to mechanically clean the surface - so-called satin or polish.

AISI 304 stainless steel in Polished surface finish shows greater resistance to contaminated rainwater than Satin / Polished Steel because it has no small scratches and furrows in which water stops and dries. It retains its shine and good appearance for longer, but it does not change the fact that it is not acid-resistant steel.
It is an intermediate price solution between AISI 304 steel in satin finish and AISI 316 acid resistant steel.

Is stainless steel magnetic?
Austenitic stainless steels (e.g. 302, 304, 316) are non-magnetic, but as a result of hardening they can show a small degree of magnetic properties. In the case of strongly plastically deformed elements, the phenomenon is associated with the formation of the martensitic phase, which is magnetic and causes steel to attract the magnet.
